Visual Art
Perhaps in every decade, there is much new visual art created. In this decade, visually artful works both amazing and famous were created. The following are some of them.
The 1970s was a decade in which massively scaled pieces of art came to grow in popularity.
Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty, according to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts,

"is a 15-foot-wide coil that stretches more than 1,500 feet into the lake. Undoubtedly the most famous large-scale earthwork of the period, it has come to epitomize Land art."
The art has become a part of the land, defining it somewhat.
Because of this, it naturally will break down as time progresses, and due to rises and falls in water level is sometimes invisible from the surface of the lake.
"The close communion between Spiral Jetty and the super-saline Great Salt Lake emphasizes the entropic processes of erosion and physical disorder with which Smithson was continually fascinated."
Another piece of visual art that is part of the land is Richard Long's "Walking a Line in Peru"( source ).
Created in 1972, it is a literal line in the ground between one point and another, stretching towards distant mountains.
In 1977, Walter de Maria finished "The Lightning Field".
According to Dia, it is the following:

"a work of Land Art situated in a remote area of the high desert of western New Mexico."
It is comprised of 400 polished stainless-steel poles installed in a grid array measuring one mile by one kilometer."
About two years later, Walter de Maria finished "The Broken Kilometer", that which

"is composed of 500 highly polished, round, solid brass rods, each measuring two meters in length and five centimeters (two inches) in diameter. The 500 rods are placed in five parallel rows of 100 rods each."
Each of these works exemplifies visual artistry at a massive scale.
Visual art painted or silk screened was regular during the 1970s.
Andy Warhol completed a series of silk screen art known as "The Atheletes" between 1977 and 1979( source ).

Between 1978 and 1979, he completed "Shadows".

According to Dia,

"Shadows is one of Warhol’s most abstract works, yet one that cohesively synthesizes key elements of his practice, including film, painting, photography, and screenprinting."
Yet another of the world's most well renowned painters is Georgia O'Keeffe.
During the 1970s, she too released multiple works.
She released Untitled( City Night ), that which is, according to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum,

"Vertical depiction of two black buildings on either side of work in foreground; left building has gray band running vertically from top to bottom; right building has narrower gray line beige at top becoming gray; background has silhouetted stepped white building on right of center; between buildings is blue ground with 4 stars in center top and hazy full moon in lower 1/8 of center."

Her otherwise released painting of the decade was "Sky Above Clouds/Yellow Horizon and Clouds".

"O’Keeffe lost central vision in 1972 due to macular degeneration, and that upon meeting Juan Hamilton in 1974, she began making pots because it had become difficult for her to paint (Sky Above Clouds, for instance, was painted with assistance)."
